Home schooling has many benefits - happier children, higher test scores, a renewed interest in learning, not only for the kids but many times for the parents as well - but there is no doubt about it - home schooling also carries a bigger load for the teaching parent than they were carrying before.

Stop and think about it - with a public school situation the parent often has the responsibility of dropping the child (or children) off at school, picking them up and perhaps helping out occasionally with a little homework. As the home schooling parent, that schedule is completely changed - no more daily taxi service (at least to the school) but instead a bewildering array of new tasks - lesson plans, educational goals, administrative paperwork, mentoring, logistics and supply, ensuring academic excellence, planning field trips, etc.

Luckily, as home schooling has grown in popularity, so have the resources that are available to help parents cope with the additional responsibilities they now face. The Internet now abounds with these resources - if you have an Internet connection that's the place to start. There are academic companies that provide specific curriculum for each grade (although you'll pay more for these "prepackaged" lesson plans than you would developing them on your own), there are legal defense agencies you can join in case you reside in a state or community that is unfriendly to home schoolers, there are chat rooms and jokes that will lift your spirits and provide you with support of like-minded parents, and there are a multitude of places that will provide lesson plan suggestions or teaching methodologies either for a fee, or for free, depending on the site.

Unfortunately, there is no single site that pulls all this information together - there is just too much information to be combined on one site - that would sort of be like expecting to find all the information available about attending college on a single site - but some of the better sites about home schooling contain valuable links to other sites that will lead you to almost all the information you'll ever need about home schooling resources.

Start your search by entering "Home Schooling" or "Homeschooling" in the search box, plus any other words you're specifically looking for, such as "lesson plans" or "curriculum," etc. The more specific you are, the faster the search will be.

And don't forget other resources that aren't on the Internet, such as your local schools or support groups. Depending on the community you live in, your local schools may be very supportive of home schoolers - you may be able to order books or complimentary lesson plans through the school, or even talk to local teachers or administrators about specific problems you may be having such as behavioral issues or teaching methodologies.

In addition, local support groups of other home schooling parents can provide you with an invaluable resource in the form of a support network on those days when home schooling gets to be more than you can handle, or when you need some fresh ideas and approaches.
